Economic Freedom Fighters leader, Julius Malema who is part of the panel of the Judicial Services Commission conducting interviews of the High Court has ordered a white judge to apologize for apartheid laws.
The apartheid prosecutor JJ Strijdom once came face to face with Julius Malema in a previous interview and when he was asked a few years ago about transformation in the Judiciary, he conceded that he didn’t know how he was going to implement it.
This time around, he met Julius Malema once again, and he was told to apologize for being part of the prosecutors who unfairly prosecuted anti-apartheid activists.
“This is an opportunity for you to apologize if you are so willing, can you do that?” Malema asked Strijdom before he gave him the opportunity to apologize.
The red beret leader then told the while judge to “please do it”
Strijdom said he apologized for being part of the system that used apartheid laws to prosecute liberation struggle icons who were trying to fight the apartheid regime.
“I apologize for the fact that I was part of an apartheid system, that I was part of the apartheid and that we applied those laws. And that I was one of the instruments to apply that law. I apologize to those people,” said the judge.
Several critics are now singing praises to Julius Malema for his bravery stance to make an apartheid judge apologize.
“If you have never had to confront apartheid enforcer in a form of Security Branch, Prosecutors, Magistrates or Judge. You would not appreciate the restorative impact Julius has just done for us by making advocate Strijdom SC to apologize for what he did. Thank you @Julius_S_Malema,” some said.
“The pressure was mounting against the apartheid legal representative to put the apology during the process,”
“Moshimane maaaaan…boyza maaaan…Did you just made him apologise?
