Members of Reaction Unit attended the scene after an infant baby girl was located dumped in a bush.
A man discovered the baby at the base of an embankment next to a stream in the vicinity of a soccer court while picking mangoes. The temperature at the location was 28 degrees celsius at the time of the discovery. A bag containing nappies, a bottle of milk and a pacifier was lying next to the child. A note in english (picture 3) believed to be written by the mother was also found.
It explained that she made contact with social workers twice but was let down by the system. The writer also also stated that abortion was not an option as it is no longer safe and hospitals have strict rules. She further requested that authorities be notified when the baby is located. The man then contacted his employer who requested Reaction Unit SA to be called out to the scene.
On arrival, Reaction Officers were pointed out the location of the discovery and handed over the child and the bag. A female Officer & Medics were called to the scene and the child’s soaked diaper was changed. The baby girl was then fed with a bottle of milk. Medics examined the infant aged approx three (3) months and found her to be in good health.
A criminal case of Child Abandonment will be registered & Reaction Officers will be seeking assistance to identify the child or mother. If any can assist with the identification, kindly contact 086 1234 333 (RUSA).
