Usually the musicians excelled for a long time before they became famous in the music industry but the Zwelibomvu boy, who sings Amapiano, took a few minutes to appear on social media and became famous.
Sipho Mbonambi (17), who calls himself “Mfana kaGogo”, caught the attention of many with his talent as he first appeared on social media last week, with some of South Africa’s most popular artists contacting him from time to time. Some did not hesitate to apply to work with him.
According to his manager, Mafutha, finding Gogo’s Boy was not easy. It took him two weeks to find his, and he finally found his in a rural area of Tafelkop, Zwelibomvu, near Mariannhill.
“I’m known as a person who helps young people to be known for what they do. Many times people begged me to help Mfana Kagogo but they did not know where he lived. Then I went out to look for him, “said Mafutha.
When he found his, he posted a video of his on social media with the intention of hearing the water with a stick.
He said after 10 minutes of uploading it he found a lot of people asking when he was going to record. He said he was very happy to receive messages from local artists, Cassper Nyovest, the Rude Boys, Gold Max of Destruction Boyz, Vetkoek vs Mahoota and others wanting to contact him.
He said that while he was looking at Gogo Mfana kaGogo on social media with a song he wrote about his hardships, as he was raised by his grandmother on a pension fund and his mother was unemployed, he also got two recording contracts with music companies, one of which was overseas.
“He loves school. When we are in the studio he is carrying his books. Everywhere he goes his school bag is not left. When I hear it, at school you do very well. In just a few days of his public appearance, he was hired immediately, ”said Mafutha.
People are still amazed at the ability of this Grade 11 pupil, who attends Fundinduku Secondary school.
What impresses people the most is his rhythm similar to that of Mpura Mpura, a Soweto pianist who recently passed away in a car accident last month along with five other artists including Killer Kau who accompanied him in the car.
Many have likened Mpura Mpura’s resurrection to the grave, saying that the boy’s singing style and the messages in his songs are similar to those in the late star’s songs.
On Saturday Mfana Kagogo was entertaining at a party in Yard, Umlaza, where he left people speechless.
In an interview with Solezwe Mfana Kagogo, he said he still could not believe how people welcomed him.
“The yard was the place I heard the story. Singing there is something I will never forget.
“I thought it would be a long time before people would know about me. his dream is to make a lot of money so that he can build a decent home for his family.
“My grandmother is very supportive. He never left me, not even asking for money to do music. “He was packing his bags and taking out the last penny for me to leave,” he concluded
