South African police have turned into a joke. Not so long ago, there was a trending story of a group of Zimbabweans who broke out of prison. It was said that the group was composed of six Zimbabweans and one South African citizen. Up until now, some of those people were still on the run. Although some have been re-arrested, people are still living in fear because those who are out are said to be dangerous.
As the search for the remaining prison escapees continues, another 12 people broke out of prison again. According to the reports, on Saturday evening, twelve criminals broke out of lawful custody at the police station in Komatipoort, which is located in Mpumalanga. They were able to get away with two service pistols and ammunition. The authorities have already tracked down and captured two of the fugitives who escaped custody when they were discovered attempting to enter Mozambique, but the other 10 suspects are still at large, and the authorities are actively searching for them.
A preliminary report has shown that there was a confrontation between the police and the detainees who were being held in the holding cells, which resulted in the wounding of one officer from the police force. Police are warning people that if they come across these people, they shouldn’t approach them or do anything that will put their lives at risk because these people are very dangerous; if you see them, just call the police instead. It is true that the South African correctional service has turned into a laughing stock; it seems like the security in prison is no longer tight like back then. This is taking down the dignity of our security system. The people who are in charge of this prison must account. In most situations, there is an internal person involved in the breakout because those people can’t just break out without enough information.
