Economic Freedom Fighters leader, Julius Malema takes swipe at the ANC comrades who are vying for presidency in December. He said the fact that the movement is having so many candidates for presidency shows that ANC is dying and everyone wants to enjoy the last moments.
Malema was speaking at the 3rd Northern Cape Provincial People’s Assembly. He said what is happening within ANC is not right as everyone want to be a leader.
“In the ANC today, you have five to six people contesting to be president of the ANC and 11 contesting to be secretary general. That is a sign that they have accepted it is dying – ‘so before it dies I must get something out of it’.
You can never have an organisation where the entire membership and the entire support base want to be leadership. There will always be leaders, there will always be members, there will always be supporters,” Malema said.
Social critics argued that Julius Malema is against the idea of so many candidates vying for presidency because he does not want to be contested for his leadership position. He said he will resign when the right time comes and it is not known when will he do that.
Contrary to what is happening within ANC, Malema said his party follows what is called democratic centralism where if a decision was made by a higher structure, the lower structures will have to toe the line without contestation.
“In the EFF, there is what we call democratic centralism. What democratic centralism means is that once a decision is taken by a higher structure, all the lower structures must respect that decision,” said Malema.
He however said that the contestation of ideas and leadership preferences is not a declaration of war, but a sign that there is life within the organisation.
