Former president Thabo Mbeki is alleged to have warned ANC comrades against electing president Cyril Ramaphosa for a second term in December.
This comes as only three months are left for ANC national conference which will elect leadership for the next coming five years. Thabo Mbeki lately has been criticizing Ramaphosa’s administration stating that the president could have done more.
Mbeki tore through current ANC leadership accusing them of being incompetent and describing others as political careerists. Ramaphosa’s allies are however not pleased with Mbeki’s utterances, and hit back stating that his administration was also mixed with controversies.
Those who agree with the former president, Thabo Mbeki that Cyril Ramaphosa must not get a second term said Mbeki has been trying to give ANC comrades a signal about Cyril, and now he has pronounced it as the conference days are drawing near.
“Last two weeks president Mbeki was giving us a sign when he said some of the people joined ANC for the wrong reasons. He was referring to Ramaphosa,” they said.
While CR faction is certain that president Cyril Ramaphosa will win in December, RET comrades are said to be still undecided on who will be their candidate to contest for presidency as several names have been mentioned.
Some are allegedly pushing that the RET comrades must mobilise for a deputy president position so that if Ramaphosa wins, then a deputy president must be from the RET faction.
“CR supporters going to the conference are united on Ramaphosa’s second term but all are divided on who should be his deputy. I told my RET comrades long time ago that we should not contest the position of the presidency but contest for deputy president. This is a guaranteed win,” he said.
It seems also that RET comrades are planning to nominate their candidate from the floor in December. They said they learnt the hard way that if they endorse people early they the become Hawks and mainstream media targets.
