As the Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema revealed that they managed to successfully submit candidates who will contest in the upcoming local government elections, the same cannot be said about the African National Congress.
Jessie Duarte dropped bombshell that ANC may not be able to contest elections in about 30 municipalities. This is due to factional battles within ANC which saw these municipalities failing to come up candidates who will contest in the local government elections.
ANC is now on it’s knees pleading with the Electoral Court to extend the due date for councillor candidate submission so that they can field their candidates in the municipalities that are currently vacant after the Electoral Commission rejected their appeal.
The ANC however faces a huge obstacle as the Economic Freedom Fighters issued a statement sternly warning that they are going to oppose ANC’s application to the Electoral Court seeking an extension of the due date.
African National Congress in their application to the IEC argued that they were delayed by a faulty electronic system which resulted in them running out of time before finishing their submission.
EFF objected their argument and stated that it is false and disingenuous.
“The argument that the ANC’s delay was due to a faulty electronic system is false and disingenuous because the IEC had an option of manual submissions for candidates that could not be submitted electronically,” EFF revealed.
Disgruntled ANC members stated that this has never happened in the previous years, that ANC might fail to contest in about 30 municipalities in local government elections.
As things stand, ANC cannot afford not to contest in 30 municipalities because in previous elections, they already lost in some of the Metros which are now under multi party government.
Such Metros include Ekurhuleni, Tshwane and the outgoing Ekurhuleni City mayor Mzwandile Masina asserted that ANC is losing its grip on power and coalition government might the reality of the future.
Economic Freedom Fighters deputy president, Floyd Shivambu said the electorate must teach ANC a lesson especially now that they failed to submit candidates in some of the municipalities.
“The crumbling, broke and directionless former liberation movement failed to submit candidates in some of the Wards due to gross incompetence, factionalism and infighting. The electorate must teach them a lesson. #VoteEFF! #WeAreRocking,” said Shivambu.
