The South African way of football has in the recent years been taken out of South Africa’s top tier league, as the western way of football has hit the league hard players who play using the kasi flavour are overlooked for players that play direct football.
As they continue to be overlooked and forced out of teams, the players who use this style move to lower divisions(leagues) and local tournaments to be able to use this style of play freely and enjoy playing football again.
Something that former Baroka Football Clubstar, Tshepo Mateteknows well, as his fame and displays in the dusty fields of Mzansi won him a contract with the Limpopo-based club back in the 2015/2016 season, but due to his style of play not being used by many, he failed to make the grades.
That didn’t affect his confidence as he went back to the dusty fields of Mzansi and worked on his game which earned him three professional contracts, before joining Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila Football Club last season.
With most of the leagues in South Africa in the offseason, Matete who is well known by the name Skhwama is also enjoying his offseason playing in the Dstv Kasi Champ of Champs tournament currently playing in Gauteng.
During his club AT Mambas Football Club’s first group match against Free Agents Football ClubMatete put on a show for fans in attendance and watching on tv, as dished out incredible dribbling skills that no defender had an answer for as they watched him do what he does best.
This is the style of football that South Africa’s success is based on and the more they keep trying to take out of us, the more we will keep on suffering.
We need this style of play to compete and without it, we are not going to compete.
