Poverty at its peak, as thousands of South Africans residents rush to KZN after hearing rumours that people are mining diamonds. This news sparked many people’s interest as to whether those were real diamonds or not, hence others rushed to KZN to confirm. Although some people were saying that they wouldn’t be worth much as they are not real diamonds, it didn’t stop South Africans from going and mining. There are many videos flooding social media of people carrying these stones and looking very excited.

However, their bubble was busted when the internet told them that those are not real diamonds. Regardless of hearsays about the diamonds KZN residents continued mining in hopes that they will finally get to live a “Soft life ” meaning they won’t have to suffer anymore. When interviewed one of them said; “I believe I’ll never have to work again and I will continue to mine until I’m happy with what I have. I have been here since Tuesday last week and even if they say this is a useless stone, that’s their business,” he said as he continued to dig.
None of them are not sure if indeed those are real diamonds, they are just hopeful. They believe that it’s better to mine and wait with those stones in their houses than to regret not going there to mine at all. Mzansi people are also with KZN residents on this one saying, “Our people are hungry, We hope they get something of value from these stones”. Currently Unemployment rate is high in South Africa and Covid hasn’t made things easier as a lot of people continue to lose their jobs. We really hope this is the breakthrough Mzansi prayed for.
It is not yet confirmed if the diamonds are real or they are just stones. A lot of people are even suspecting foul play because the results are taking longer than expected. On the other hand, no news means it’s good news for fellow South Africans. Some people have even started naming their prices and selling stones on markets.
However, There is news flying that the Government is calling for KZN billionaires to return the mined products. That’s what has people worried because what they were doing is regarded as illegal mining. Illegal mining is mining activity that is undertaken without state permission, in particular in absence of land rights, mining licenses, and exploration or mineral transportation permits.
