According to reports by an SA publication , Gigaba had opened a case back in May that there were threats on his life.
The investigation was still underway and was brought to light again with recent events involving his wife Norma.
This was after Norma allegedly keyed a G63 AMG vehicle at their home and wrote the words cheater on it.
Malusi Gigaba has revealed that the car is not his but he had borrowed it from his friend Peterson Siyaya.
Siyaya is said to have lent the vehicle to Gigaba and then Norma damaged the vehicle while it was with her husband.
The public wondered why a simple malicious damage of property case was being handled by the Hawks but it soon emerged that the supposed hit ordered on Malusi also factored in the whole saga.
Norma’s belongings were reportedly seized in order to investigate whether she was involved in the hiring of assassins to murder her husband.
“There was an element of threat to his life in the nature of the offence; we had to get involved and deal with it. We have done what we had to do. That case now will be referred to the SAPS detective for further investigation”
Norma was arrested on Friday and charged with malicious damage to property and crime injuria.
She was then released on bail on Saturday night after spending the night behind bars.
