KZN Premier Ntuli Said He Was Not Worried About the Motion of No Confidence as it was MKP & EFF

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Thami Ntuli has minimised the importance of the motion of no confidence submitted against him, suggesting that its outcome was never a matter of concern. His remarks came after a contentious session of the provincial legislature, during which the motion was discussed and ultimately failed.

Ntuli noted that the initiative originated from the uMkhonto weSizwe Party and was endorsed by the Economic Freedom Fighters, two parties that have persistently maintained an opposition stance to the Government of Provincial Unity. He emphasised that their position was foreseeable, considering that neither party has ever endorsed the GPU arrangement presently administering the province.

According to the premier, the political affiliation supporting the motion clearly indicated its purpose and probable course from the very beginning. He proposed that the action was primarily aimed at strengthening opposition politics within the legislature, especially from parties that have opted not to engage in the collaborative framework of the GPU, rather than emphasising accountability.

The motion was introduced amidst escalating political tensions within the province, with discussions mirroring wider national developments subsequent to the recent elections. Nevertheless, Ntuli asserted that the GPU remains operational and committed to its core mission, contending that its partners continue to uphold a shared understanding of stability and governance priorities in KwaZulu-Natal.

Ntuli’s response further emphasised confidence in the coalition’s numerical advantage and internal unity. By highlighting that the motion was initiated by parties external to the governing structure, he characterised the vote as a routine political procedure rather than a sincere challenge to his leadership or the stability of the administration.

The unsuccessful motion has once again underscored the profound divisions within the provincial legislature, while also reaffirming the current distribution of power that favours the governing coalition. For Ntuli, the episode seems to have reaffirmed that the GPU continues to possess adequate support to resist opposition challenges and maintain governance within the province.
