In a dramatic turn of events, the Skhosana family’s Lobola negotiations have escalated into a legal battle. The Moja Love TV show “Izinkomo Zamalobolo” recently featured their plight, shedding light on the complexities of traditional marriage customs and modern legal implications.

Mr. Mthombeni, the show’s presenter, accompanied the Skhosana family with the police officers, where officers assisted them in navigating this delicate situation. The Skhosana family had paid Lobola—a customary marriage—to the bride’s family, offering four cows as part of the marriage negotiations. Their is price being set from the other family and Skhosana family had one of the cows (valued at R20,000) was returned for the slaughtering ceremony.

The heart of the dispute lies in the absence of the bride. After the Lobola negotiations, she was expected to join her new family, but she never arrived. During a confrontation at her family’s home, she adamantly denied accepting the marriage. Her stance is supported by an agreement document that claims there is no formal marriage between her and the Skhosana family.

The alleged wife and mother further contends that the Skhosanas are not fulfilling their financial obligations, refusing to pay maintenance. Meanwhile, Mr. Mthombeni produced a conflicting document asserting her marriage to the Skhosana family is real.

The feud has raged on for over a decade, highlighting the clash between tradition and legal rights. As Lobola customs intersect with contemporary legal frameworks, questions arise: Can a marriage be valid without the bride’s consent? How do we balance cultural practices with individual autonomy?

The Moja Love TV show continues to follow this gripping saga, unraveling the layers of tradition, love and legal battles. For the Skhosana family, the fight for recognition and justice persists—a reminder that even age-old customs can lead to modern complexities. Is important to have a document that stats the agreement in full and written words as agreed during negotiations.
