Stunning tension is building around suspended deputy national police commissioner Lt-Gen Shadrack Sibiya as startling new details emerge about his alleged private life and his reported visits to a Sandton strip club. The revelations have added another layer to the growing scrutiny surrounding one of South Africa’s most senior police officers.
According to allegations that have surfaced, Sibiya was known to frequent an upmarket establishment in Sandton, where he allegedly spent time socialising with dancers, including several Russian performers.
A dancer reportedly claimed that the senior police officer was a regular visitor and would sometimes arrive during the early hours of the morning. He was allegedly particularly fond of spending time with three Russian dancers and would pay them to leave the club with him.
The claims have attracted attention because they come at a time when Sibiya is already facing intense scrutiny over serious allegations surrounding his conduct.
Sibiya is facing criminal allegations stemming from an incident involving young women, with charges reportedly including rape, trafficking in persons and sexual grooming. The allegations remain before the courts and have not been proven.
The latest revelations about his alleged nightlife activities have therefore added a fresh dimension to the controversy surrounding the suspended police chief.
Questions are likely to intensify over the details of his reported visits to the establishment and whether further information about his alleged activities will emerge as the legal proceedings continue.
The allegations remain subject to the legal process, with Sibiya entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
