Today is Thursday the 12th of January 2023, the day that some South Africans might have been waiting for. Former President Jacob Zuma was expected to appear at the Johannesburg High Court on charges he laid against President Cyril Ramaphosa.
As he previously pledged his support for Jacob Zuma, Carl Niehaus was apparently at the Johannesburg High Court. The expelled African National Congress leader shared a picture from inside the court to show his presence to the public. On the picture, Niehaus was with Zuma’s daughter Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla and other three people.
“In the Gauteng High Court, Johannesburg, together with my fellow comrades in support of President Jacob Zuma, in his prosecution of Cyril Ramaphosa. Cyril Ramaphosa was charged before the ANC 55th National Conference started. Thus he should have stepped aside, and his candidature was illegal.” Carl Niehaus said, as he shared the picture to his followers.
Too many people responded to Niehaus, and it seems like some of them didn’t take him serious as they responded with laughing emojis. One of the user even commented saying, “you guys don’t take South Africa serious.”
Tilly TerBlanche responded by saying that, they are out for a revenge charge. “A real nolle of a charge. Your leader once again using the Courts in pursuit of a political vendetta and efforts to stay his real prosecution.” TerBlanche said in response to Niehaus’s post.
Lorenzo Adrian said, “if that was the cause and effect Zuma wanted to have, well it didn’t work and you will lose this case as well.”
Looking at the responses on Niehaus’s post, it seems like people are no longer caring about what will happen to Zuma and his legal battles. Or is this a signal that people are gradually being disinterested in politics?
