Former president Jacob Zuma’s staunch supporter, Ngizwe Mchunu is appearing at the Randburg Magistrates Court. He is charged with inciting violence during unrest in July 2021 and contravention of the Disaster Management Act.
Mchunu is not new to controversy, and instead of wearing proper clothes, he decided to show up wearing his Zulu attire. He was spotted with Bonginkosi Khanyile, one of the alleged instigators of the July uprising.
Uphiko olushushisa amacala (NPA) edume ngokubizwa ngoMbuso usuqede injabulo kaNgizwe Mchunu. Bathi angatshakaduli ngoDisemba ngoba bamdinga eNkantolo ngezi 5 December bona kabakalilungeli leli cala. Ufakazi wabo kekho ufakaza kwelinye icala. UNgizwe uvele wabihlika wakhala zathi co co co izinyebhenzi zikaPresident wamabhinca.
UMchunu njengabanye osaziwayo bazenzela imali ngoDisemba kodwa i-NPA ithi kakhohlwe kabuye ngoDecember 5. INkantolo ithe olaydi, wena Ngizwe buya eNkantolo yezwa? Wabathe uyachaza kwathiwa cha kunjalo-nje. INkantolo ithe mawungabuyi uzokinatelwa. Yathi lacu imantshi kwathiwa all rise. Baphume bebhocobele oNgizwe, ugqume waphalazela amahhala kusho abantu. UNgizwe usahamba icala asolwa ngalo lokuba uqhathizwe mzukwana abantu betapa bethi bafuna uZuma aphume ejele beqamba amañga bevukwe ubusela kusho abantu.
His supporters have also come out in their numbers to rally behind him. They left several traditional items outside the Randburg Magistrate’s Court ahead of his appearance. The items include arrows, shields and other traditional things used by the Zulu warriors.
Supporters of Ngizwe Mchunu before they proceeded inside the court, they were chanting traditional songs and burning impepho outside the Magistrate’s Court ahead of his appearance.
Ngizwe Mchunu also met with former president Jacob Zuma last week, and he wished him well in his court case. Zuma said Mchunu should be guided by the ancestors and should see that his case must be thrown out.
The Kwa-Zulu Natal based former radio presenter, Ngizwe Mchunu alleged that the state has no case, but is just dragging and trying to find something they could nail him with. He popularised the phrase “aikhale” during the July uprising after Zuma’s arrest, and this was believed to have been a code for violence.
“Who can expect the freedom fighter at the age of 80 to be arrested, then we expect the public to be quiet. You must be fooling yourself, that will never happen,” said Ngizwe Mchunu.
Ironically, former president Jacob Zuma wished Ngizwe Mchunu well on his court case, while he also is fighting his own legal woes. On Monday he appeared at Pietermaritzburg High Court where he is pursuing private prosecution of advocate Billy Downer and journalist Karyn Maughan for unlawfully leaking his confidential medical records.
