In as much as SA boosts of ubuntu which entails human virtues such as humility and compassion. SA has not always been known as the rainbow nation it prides itself of being. We have heard stories of division among tribes. Some labelled egotistical, prideful and arrogant while others selfish and dangerous. In recent years light has also being shone on South Africa’s hatered for foreigners. With reports stating the South Africans don’t want immigrants whether those that legally or illegally reside in SA.
Pictures have been circulating on social media of an area that appears to have divided into two. Under the twitter thread there were many comments from fearful citizens who thought that this was probably a province in SA separating from the rest of the country. Below are twitter threads from people both panicked at the situation and some just making fun of the subject matter.
Well there is good news that will not be happening in SA anytime soon in fact Africa is made of 2 tectonic plates. The Nubian and the Somali so it is going to take a long time before we see any part of SA becoming another Madagascar anytime soon. For those who are wondering tectonic plates are are pieces of Earth’s crust and uppermost mantle, together referred to as the lithosphere.
The plates are around 100 km thick and consist of two principal types of material: oceanic crust and continental crust. The heat from radioactive processes within the planet’s interior causes the plates to move, sometimes toward and sometimes away from each other in the case seen in the picture the plates were moving away from each other and this phenomenon is called plate motion another term used is tectonic shift.
This topic has indirectly brought up the subject matter of unity and oneness do you think SA as a whole or the majority of South Africans love, care, protect and respect one another?
