Afrika Mayibuye Movement leader Floyd Shivambu was robbed in Cape Town on Wednesday after thieves broke into a hired vehicle at the V&A Waterfront .
Shivambu said the suspects stole a travel bag, a handbag and a backpack containing a MacBook Pro laptop, two iPads, watches, identity documents, bank cards and other valuables . The incident happened while he and party members attended a ward candidate verification meeting .
According to reports, images of the alleged suspect were obtained from the V&A Waterfront’s security control room and handed to the South African Police Service . A case of theft was opened at the Table Bay Harbour Police Station, and Shivambu noted that several other victims were at the station reporting similar vehicle break-ins .
Police confirmed the case has been registered and investigations are ongoing, with no arrests made yet . Despite the incident, Shivambu said the party would continue with its election programme, stating that “no amount of distraction will stop our march towards victory” .
