A video showing President Cyril Ramaphosa meeting with activists Nkosikhona Ndabandaba and Ngizwe Mchunu has sparked widespread discussion online after going viral.

The footage, reportedly recorded on the eve of the anti-immigration protests held on June 30, captures the three men in what appears to be a relaxed and informal conversation. Although the audio in the clip is unclear and offers little insight into what was discussed, social media users have focused heavily on the visible laughter and friendly atmosphere shared during the encounter.

The short video does not reveal the subject matter of the meeting or whether any agreements were reached. However, many viewers were struck by the apparent warmth of the exchange, especially given the activists’ history of openly criticising Ramaphosa over his government’s handling of undocumented immigration.

The timing of the meeting has also fueled speculation. It reportedly took place late at night, just hours before planned nationwide demonstrations calling for the removal of undocumented foreign nationals from South Africa.

Ndabandaba and Mchunu have been prominent voices in the Abahambe campaign, a movement advocating for stronger action against illegal immigration. Their appearance alongside the President in a seemingly light-hearted setting has raised questions among supporters and critics alike.

Without a clear record of what was discussed, the meeting’s purpose remains uncertain. Still, the visuals alone have generated intense debate, with many wondering whether the engagement signals a possible shift in relations between the activists and the Presidency.

The viral footage has added another layer to the broader national conversation around immigration, activism, and political engagement, as public attention remains fixed on how the government responds to growing pressure over border enforcement and migration policy.
