A public disagreement between political figure and Zimbabwean journalist has generated widespread discussion on social media as conversations surrounding the planned national shutdown continue to dominate public attention.

The controversy began after Mathe alleged that Ngobese-Zuma declined an invitation to appear on his podcast because she feared being challenged during the interview. To support his claim, he shared what appeared to be screenshots of a private conversation between them, which quickly attracted significant public interest.

According to the exchange, Ngobese-Zuma questioned whether the interview would be conducted fairly and professionally. She reportedly expressed concerns about Mathe’s previous online comments, suggesting they reflected bias and raised doubts about whether the discussion would provide a balanced platform.

The incident has divided opinion online. Some social media users argued that public figures should be willing to participate in difficult interviews, particularly during periods of heightened political debate, while others said declining such invitations could fuel unnecessary speculation.

However, many defended Ngobese-Zuma’s decision, arguing that politicians have the right to assess the credibility, tone, and intentions of media platforms before agreeing to interviews. Others said journalists should maintain professionalism and create spaces that encourage respectful and balanced discussions.

The exchange has also reignited broader conversations about journalistic ethics, media accountability, and the importance of mutual respect in public discourse as political debates continue to unfold online.
