Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema has reaffirmed his commitment to speaking out despite criticism and hostility, saying he will not be intimidated into changing his stance on political issues.
“I stand for the truth. Even if they insult me every day, wanting to kill me every day, wanting to arrest me every day, I will never back them. I will always tell them the truth. Africa is one,” Malema said.
The remarks reflect Malema’s long-standing political messaging centred on resistance, Pan-African unity, and advocacy for what he describes as economic freedom for the continent. He has frequently positioned himself as a vocal critic of policies and institutions he believes undermine African solidarity and economic transformation.
His reference to “Africa is one” aligns with the EFF’s broader ideological emphasis on Pan-Africanism, which promotes the idea of unity among African states and peoples beyond colonial borders. The party has often called for stronger continental cooperation, open borders within Africa, and shared economic development strategies.
The comments also come amid ongoing political tensions in South Africa, where Malema remains one of the country’s most polarising figures. Supporters view him as a fearless voice for the marginalized, while critics argue that his rhetoric is often confrontational and inflammatory.
Despite repeated controversies and political pressure, Malema has consistently maintained that he will continue expressing his views regardless of opposition or personal risk. His latest remarks further reinforce his position as a central figure in South Africa’s political discourse, particularly on issues related to land reform, economic inequality, and continental identity.
The statement is expected to draw mixed reactions, as debates over political speech, accountability, and leadership style continue to shape public discussion in the country.
