You Were Loud When A Nigerian Was Killed But When Mazwi Went Missing You Said Nothing – Thembisile Q

A heated exchange between Sinawo Thambo, a Member of Parliament representing the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), and South African artist Thembisile Q has sparked widespread debate on social media over the country’s immigration policies.

The dispute unfolded on X, where Thembisile Q accused Thambo of prioritising the concerns of foreign nationals over those of South African citizens. In her remarks, she referenced a recent incident involving a Nigerian Bolt driver, noting that Thambo had been vocal in condemning the death. She contrasted this with what she described as his silence on the reported disappearance of a South African man identified as Mazwi, who has allegedly been missing for a month.

Her comments quickly gained traction online, drawing both support and criticism. Some users echoed her concerns, arguing that public officials should demonstrate equal attention to issues affecting citizens. Others defended Thambo, highlighting his stance on human rights and his consistent advocacy against xenophobia.

The controversy comes amid rising tensions in South Africa over immigration, with divisions emerging among government officials, activists, and civil society groups. Activist Ngizwe Mchunu has recently led protests against undocumented immigration, actions that Thambo publicly criticised, calling for a more lawful and humane approach to migration.

Political analysts say the clash reflects a broader national debate over immigration, accountability, and governance. As prominent figures continue to voice opposing views, the issue remains a focal point in public discourse, with growing scrutiny on how leaders balance national interests with constitutional principles of equality and human rights.
