King Mswati’s Bodyguard Allegedly Shoots kills himself In Front Of SADC Heads Of State

Tragically, a senior military bodyguard committed suicide during an official SADC-related event attended by Heads of State, casting a shadow over the festivities commemorating Mswati III’s 40-year reign.

Lieutenant Colani Mdluli was a member of the King’s security detail who tragically lost his life at the high-profile event. The event reportedly took place in front of officials and dignitaries who had assembled for the regional ceremony, which was connected to the monarch’s anniversary celebrations and was part of the larger Southern African Development Community (SADC) engagements.

While the official cause of his death has not been announced, initial reports indicate that it may have been connected to long-standing complaints about poor salaries within certain elements of the security services.

While emergency services rushed to the site, security services swiftly secured the area to prevent any interruption to the continuing procedures. As officials worked to handle the incident and restore order, the program was apparently briefly affected.

It has been established that an internal inquiry is currently ongoing and that the Eswatini Defence Force is aware of the event. Officials from the government have also stated that they are taking the situation very seriously because of how sensitive it is and how public it was.

Authorities have asked for patience and cautioned against making assumptions until official investigations have finished, even if unverified rumours are still circulating on social media.

The tragedy has reignited discussions about the compensation and working conditions of Eswatini’s military and state security forces. Although complaints about wages and working conditions have arisen on occasion in recent years, experts say they have seldom been so publicly and politically charged.

At this time, neither the funeral nor any formal remarks have been made public by Lt. Col. Mdluli’s family.

After initial investigations are finished, authorities are likely to give a detailed report. The region is thinking about an occurrence that has dampened an otherwise historic royal celebration.
