Uruguayan Forward Rejects Salary Cut At Kaizer Chiefs

Gastón Sirino is expected to leave Kaizer Chiefs at the conclusion of the season after contract renewal discussions hit a deadlock. The Uruguayan forward, who joined Chiefs on a two-year deal in 2024, has seen his contract run up to June 2026, but talks for an extension have reportedly failed due to disagreements over salary terms.

According to reports, the club suggested a new contract that would have involved a reduction in Sirino’s current earnings. The 33-year-old player has made it clear that he is unwilling to accept a pay cut, which has resulted in both sides being unable to reach a compromise. Sources familiar with the situation say that the standoff is solely due to the financial terms and not related to Sirino’s performance or commitment to the team.

Despite the impasse, Sirino is reportedly focused on fulfilling his current contract and intends to honor all remaining commitments to Chiefs before his departure. During his time at the club, he has contributed significantly on the pitch, and his professionalism has been praised by teammates and coaching staff alike.

Interest in Sirino is said to be high, with several clubs in the South African Premier Division showing interest, as well as teams from South America that are willing to meet his financial expectations. While his exit will leave a gap in Chiefs’ attacking options, it appears that both the player and the club are prepared for a smooth transition at the end of the season.

For now, Sirino remains committed to giving his best in the remaining months, while Chiefs will likely begin planning for his eventual replacement in the squad ahead of the new season.
