Maskandi star Umafikizolo’s viral hit “Uyoncengwa Unyoko” has been named Ukhozi FM’s Song of the Year for 2025/2026.

The track, which sparked a popular dance challenge, was officially announced as the winner of the station’s Ingoma Ehlukanisa Unyaka contest in the early hours of New Year’s Day. The win is historic, as Umafikizolo is the first Zulu maskandi artist nominated for—and now winning—the top song on Ukhozi FM while also being nominated simultaneously on Umhlobo Wenene FM.

Reactions on social media were mixed, with some fans celebrating the achievement and others expressing disappointment over their preferred songs not winning. The announcement follows recent concerns from vocalist Mawhoo, who publicly questioned the integrity of the station’s voting system after noticing discrepancies in vote counts.

Despite the debates, Umafikizolo’s win caps a breakout year for the young artist, whose track also gained millions of streams online.
