High-profile radio content producer Ayanda Melansi has reportedly resigned from Gagasi FM, bringing her time at the KwaZulu-Natal-based commercial radio station to an end.

Melansi’s reported departure comes after weeks of public interest and social media speculation surrounding her position at the station. Her name became the subject of widespread discussion following reports about an alleged internal matter involving her role and interactions with artists.

According to reports circulating online, Melansi had allegedly been suspended following claims that artists were being charged for editorial radio interviews. Such conduct, if established, would raise serious questions because editorial interviews are generally expected to remain separate from paid promotional arrangements.

However, the allegations have not been established as fact, and the reports should be treated with caution. Gagasi FM management previously responded to speculation surrounding Melansi by indicating that she was not suspended but was instead on a standard leave of absence.

The latest reports now suggest that Melansi has decided to formally sever ties with the broadcaster by tendering her resignation. The development has attracted renewed attention because of the circumstances surrounding the reports and the important role she held within the station’s content operations.

As a content producer, Melansi was associated with programming and editorial processes that contribute to the overall sound and direction of the station. Her reported exit therefore represents a notable development for Gagasi FM, particularly at a time when commercial radio stations face increasing scrutiny over their relationships with artists, publicists and other industry stakeholders.

The controversy also highlights the growing impact of social media on the reputations of media professionals. Allegations can spread rapidly online, sometimes before organisations or individuals have an opportunity to provide detailed responses. In Melansi’s case, the reports surrounding her status at Gagasi FM generated significant discussion despite the station previously offering an explanation that differed from claims of a suspension.

At this stage, the circumstances surrounding her reported resignation remain subject to further confirmation. It is also unclear whether Gagasi FM will issue a detailed public statement explaining the reasons for her departure or whether Melansi will publicly address the reports herself.

For now, the reported resignation marks the latest chapter in a story that has attracted considerable attention within KwaZulu-Natal’s broadcasting and entertainment sectors.

While questions remain about the allegations that circulated online, it is important to distinguish between confirmed information, claims attributed to unnamed sources and social media speculation. Any conclusions about wrongdoing would require verified evidence and formal confirmation from the relevant parties.

Melansi’s reported departure is nevertheless likely to generate further discussion about professional standards, editorial independence and the relationship between broadcasters and artists in South Africa’s competitive radio industry.
