As the sun rises on the first day of 2026, the mood across the nation is not one of celebration, but of deep concern. While millions were counting down to midnight, the country’s beloved “Limpopo Queen,” Makhadzi, was facing a terrifying ordeal on the roads.

News broke late on Wednesday, December 31, that the multi-award-winning superstar had been involved in a serious car accident, turning the festive cheer into shock. The incident has sent ripples of anxiety through the music industry, which has been plagued by a “dark cloud” of road carnage this festive season.

Makhadzi is sadly not the first; she is the latest victim in a chilling string of accidents that have rocked the entertainment world this December. Fans are reeling from the realization that stars like Kaycherlow, Chymamusique, Kharishma, and Kaylow have all faced similar fates on the road in recent weeks.

“Is there a curse on our artists? Why is this happening?” one distraught fan asked on X (formerly Twitter), sparking a national conversation about the safety of our performers who crisscross the country to entertain us.

Despite the horror, the spirit of Ubuntu has risen to the occasion. Social media timelines are currently flooded with prayer emojis and heartfelt messages. From fellow celebrities to fans in the deepest rural villages, the message is unified: “Fight, Queen. We are not ready to lose you.”

As Makhadzi recovers in hospital this New Year’s Day, the music has momentarily stopped. Mzansi waits with bated breath for updates, hoping that the energy she brings to the stage will now be channeled into her recovery.
