“A loving and proud father” – The Stock family on the passing of Warrick Robert Stock aka DJ Warras

On 16 December, the day of reconcillition in Souh Africa. Radio jock, TV presenter and DJ Warrick Robert Stock (40) also known as DJ Warras has was shot and killed outside the Carlton Centre on Commissioner and Von Wielligh Streets, in Johannesburg on 16 December 2025.

Reports indicate that Warras was found lying on the pavement in pool of blood. He had four gunshot wounds on his chest and on gunshot wound on the chin. There were three cartridges and one live ammunition next to the body and a 9mm firearm next to him. The witness allegedly reported that the deceased was driving in a silver VW Golf 6. He parked it at corner Von Weiligh. He was approached by three males who fired shots at him. He managed to run and tried to draw his firearm but did not manage to fire any shots. Nothing was taken from him.

The stock family shared their “indescribable heartbreak, deep sorrow, and overwhelming shock” after the DJs passing.

“Warrick, a respected South African media personality, activist, and businessman, was brutally murdered on the morning of Tuesday, 16 December 2025, in downtown Johannesburg. The senseless nature of his passing has left his family devastated, broken, and struggling to imagine a world without him.,” the family said.

“A devoted son, a loving and proud father, a cherished brother, and uncle Warrick (40) was the heart and anchor of his family. Affectionately known as DJ Warras, also known as “The Shady Lurker”, he brought light, laughter, and strength into every space he occupied. His influence and kindness extended far beyond his home, and he was deeply loved by his friends, colleagues, and the wider South African entertainment community.”

Warrick leaves behind his three young children, his mother, and his siblings, whose lives have been irrevocably changed by this profound loss. As the family begins the painful journey of mourning, they humbly ask for privacy, compassion, and understanding during this unimaginably difficult time.

“They also respectfully request that the South African Police Service be given the space and support needed to thoroughly investigate this tragic crime, so that justice may be served.”

The family has said at this time, they are in a position to appoint a spokesperson and ask that they be kept in your thoughts and prayers as they navigate this deep and painful loss.

“The Stock family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love, messages of support, and condolences received since the news of Warrick’s passing was made public. Your kindness, compassion, and solidarity have brought moments of comfort during an incredibly dark time.”

Details regarding memorial and funeral arrangements will be shared in due course.
