Former president Jacob Zuma is scheduled to testify in defense of his daughter, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, in her trial related to the July 2021 unrest. The case resumed this week in the Durban High Court, where Zuma-Sambudla faces charges of incitement to commit public violence and terrorism.
Her legal team, led by Advocate Dali Mpofu, stated that Zuma will be their first witness. They argue the prosecution is politically motivated and connected to her father’s identity.
The state plans to call a cellphone expert to analyze the origin of social media posts shared by Zuma-Sambudla during the riots. This expert will examine whether she coordinated with WhatsApp groups that circulated content linked to the widespread looting and violence that caused major economic damage.
The case has been adjourned until next week when testimony will continue.
