National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has confirmed that his deputy, Lieutenant General Shadrack Sibiya, is currently on approved leave.

The announcement follows speculation about Sibiya’s absence from recent police operations and public engagements. Masemola stated that the leave was processed according to standard procedures and assured the public there was no cause for concern.

“Lieutenant General Sibiya is on official leave, and his responsibilities are being managed by another senior officer during this period,” Masemola said in a brief statement.

While no reason was given for the leave, police sources indicate it may be for personal reasons. There is no confirmation of any disciplinary action or investigations related to Sibiya at this time.

Known for his strong stance against organized crime and corruption, Sibiya has played a key role in several high-profile cases. His temporary absence has drawn public attention due to his active involvement in major operations.

Masemola urged against speculation, emphasizing that police operations remain unaffected. “Our leadership structure is intact, and our duty to protect and serve continues without disruption,” he said.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed that all critical functions are being maintained and that Sibiya is expected to resume his duties after his leave. No exact return date has been provided.

The statement aims to address recent rumors while reinforcing stability within the police leadership amid ongoing public and political scrutiny.
