Meet ANC mayor in Witbank, Cllr. Connie Nkalitshana who is currently trending on social media after insulting the poor masses of our people. On Wednesday, the Mayor was stoned and beaten by community members after she told them they don’t deserve water and electricity because they don’t bath and don’t have fridges so they shouldn’t be complaining. My heart was just shattered.

Nkalintshana was elected new mayor early last year after her predecessor Linah Malatjie passed away in a car accident with her husband in January. Councillor Nkalintshana also served as a chief whip in the local municipality. Drama seems to be following the mayor. Last year she collapsed following her demonstration that tap water is safe to drink by allegedly quenching down a glass of tap water in front of the guests. She was reading her speech on stage, appearing quite jolly and confident but then as she continued dignitaries and guests watched as she suffered a collapse in front them.

Yesterday she got many people angry after her distasteful statement. Such statement was unbecoming from the mayor whose duty is to uplift the peoples’ livelihoods and provisions of the service delivery. Its very arrogant and condescending from her. We are not condoning what the community did, but politicians must know that they are not untouchable, they must respect the people they serve.

People of Emalahleni have labeled the mayor as a very disrespectful person who has always undermined them. They say the got fed up of her behavior and “dealt with her”. Some say she is not educated! Undermining Black People in Witbank under the ticket of ANC as a Mayor. “I’m glad you ate the votes of ANC for next year National Elections. Calls have been made to the ANC leadership to fire the mayor as soon as possible.
