Former record label executive Mhlo Gumede has refused to engage with media speculation surrounding rumors that his wife, Zandie Khumalo-Gumede, is set to welcome Nonjabulo Mduli as a second wife in a polygamous union.
Reports surfaced last year suggesting that Zandie, the younger sister of singer Kelly Khumalo, had agreed to a polygamous arrangement, with Gumede reportedly preparing to marry Nonjabulo Mdluli—the niece of the late Ukhozi FM presenter and Crown Gospel Awards founder Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule. Recent social media activity further fueled speculation, with Zandie sharing a cryptic post that some interpreted as an endorsement of the alleged sister-wife dynamic.
In the since-deleted post, Zandie wrote: “Not me writing a song that says ‘Soze ngama endleleni ye Njabulo yakho’ and a few moments later my husband introduces a lady called ‘Nonjabulo’ to me as my sister wife and his second wife.”
When approached for comment, Gumede firmly declined to address the rumors, stating: “I can’t comment on the Gumede affairs in the media. I’ve never and will not stoop so low to make premature comments on my household.” He emphasized that his private life should not be treated as news, adding, “I don’t see why my private life is of news value—so [you] can write your story, but my family affairs are off limits.”
Instead, Gumede redirected attention to his wife’s upcoming single, the only matter he was willing to discuss publicly. Both Zandie and Nonjabulo also chose not to comment on the speculation.
The rumors have sparked mixed reactions online, with some questioning the ethics of publicizing unconfirmed personal matters, while others argue that public figures inevitably face scrutiny over their lifestyles. For now, the Gumede family appears intent on keeping their affairs private, leaving the public to speculate on the truth behind the circulating claims.
