MK Party Secretary-General Floyd Shivambu expressed gratitude for participating in the Nazareth Baptist Church pilgrimage in Khenana, KwaZulu-Natal. In a social media statement, Shivambu described the experience as “a blessed honor” and praised the church’s values of discipline, respect, and dedication.

Shivambu, who recently joined the MK Party after resigning from the EFF, reflected on the spiritual significance of the event. “Today we had the blessed privilege of joining iBandla lamaNazaretha in Khenana. The pilgrimage is real inspiration of discipline, respect and dedication,” he shared.

The pilgrimage is a key event for the Nazareth Baptist Church, also known as the Shembe Church, one of South Africa’s largest indigenous Christian communities. Founded by Isaiah Shembe in the early 20th century, the church integrates Zulu traditions with Christian teachings, emphasizing cultural preservation and spiritual growth.

Shivambu’s participation is seen as a strategic move to strengthen the MK Party’s ties with religious and cultural communities, particularly those deeply rooted in South Africa’s majority population. Political analysts suggest this could be part of a broader effort to expand the party’s support base in KwaZulu-Natal, a province with significant cultural and political influence.

The Shembe Church has historically played a vital role in promoting community values, unity, and resistance against colonial and apartheid-era oppression. Its teachings on discipline and respect align with Shivambu’s remarks and the MK Party’s goals of grassroots mobilization.

For the MK Party, fostering alliances with influential religious and cultural groups like iBandla lamaNazaretha is a key step in solidifying its presence ahead of the 2026 elections. Shivambu’s involvement underscores the party’s commitment to engaging with the spiritual and cultural heart of South Africa, building bridges across diverse communities.
