The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) are hosting their third National People’s Assembly (NPA) at Nasrec, Johannesburg, from Thursday to Sunday. The event has drawn approximately 2,000 delegates from across South Africa and will determine the party’s leadership for the next five years, including key positions such as president and deputy president.

As anticipated, Julius Malema has been re-elected unopposed for a third term as EFF president. The position of deputy president, left vacant following Floyd Shivambu’s departure to join the Umkhonto weSizwe (MK) party, will also be filled during the assembly. Godrich Gardee, a close ally of Malema, has been nominated unopposed for the role. A female candidate from Mpumalanga initially put her name forward but did not meet the required nomination threshold, leaving Gardee as the sole contender.

In other leadership nominations, Military Dlamini has emerged as a candidate for secretary-general. Voting for the new leadership is set to take place on Saturday night, with the results expected to shape the EFF’s direction for the coming years.

Addressing the delegates, Malema emphasized the need for competent leadership, stating that underqualified individuals would not be allowed to lead the party. He reiterated the EFF’s commitment to effective governance and strong leadership.
