Residents of Delft in the Western Cape are still reeling from the shock of a tragic event that took place on Thursday night, April 9, 2026. A 58-year-old woman, known affectionately as gogo, was murdered inside her own home, leaving the community devastated and frightened.

The woman was known for her hardworking spirit. She sold chicken on the street near a tyre shop to make a living. Neighbors say she had recently been approached by a group of young men who demanded she pay them a protection fee. When she explained that she had no extra money and was struggling to survive, the men apparently left her alone. But on the night of the murder, around 8:30 pm, two unknown men forced their way into her house.

The attackers searched her sitting room before moving to her bedroom, where they found her. She was shot in the head and died at the scene. The suspects then fled, taking some cash and her cellphones with them. Police believe that her death may be connected to her refusal to pay the protection fee, which is often linked to extortion and gang-related activities in the area.

Western Cape police spokesperson Wesley Twigg confirmed that they are investigating the case as a murder. Officers who arrived at the scene found her in her bedroom with a gunshot wound to her head. Medical personnel declared her dead on arrival. So far, no arrests have been made, and police are still trying to determine the exact motive behind the attack.

The community has been left shaken by the incident. Many residents are angry about the rising violence and extortion in Delft. Neighbors describe the woman as a peaceful, humble person who worked tirelessly to support herself. Her death has sparked concerns about why vulnerable people, especially the elderly, are increasingly targeted for violence.

This tragic event highlights ongoing issues of gang violence and extortion in parts of the Western Cape. Community leaders are calling for a stronger police presence and more support for vulnerable residents to prevent such crimes in the future. As investigations continue, residents are hoping for quick progress to help them feel safe again.

The woman’s family is currently making arrangements for her funeral, trying to come to terms with their sudden loss. Her brutal murder has once again raised alarm about the need to address the root causes of violence and protect those most at risk. The community hopes that justice will be served soon and that steps will be taken to prevent similar tragedies from happening again.
