Princess Angela Buthelezi, a prominent figure in the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) and member of the National Assembly, has passed away, leaving both her family and the nation in mourning. The youngest child of the late IFP founder Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi and Princess Irene, her death comes as a deep shock to many.

In a heartfelt statement, Prince Zuzifa Buthelezi, inkosi of the Buthelezi clan, expressed the family’s sorrow:

“In the early hours of this morning, the Buthelezi family received the devastating news of the untimely passing of Her Royal Highness Princess Sibuyiselwe Angela Buthelezi. It is with great sadness that we share this loss with the nation. Princess Angela, the youngest child of the late uMntwana waKwaPhindangene Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi and the late Princess Irene, passed away unexpectedly after being hospitalized in Cape Town.”

According to Prince Zuzifa, Princess Angela had fallen ill while in Cape Town for a parliamentary sitting, and though she had faced health challenges for several years, her sudden passing still came as a profound shock.

Her death, just a year after the passing of her father, adds to the family’s grief. Princess Angela was one of the last surviving children of Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, alongside her elder sister, Princess Phumzile Nokuphiwa Buthelezi.

She is survived by her daughter, Princess Ntando Neiruka, who was a constant source of support during her health struggles. Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course as the family and the nation come to terms with the loss of a beloved public figure.
