Former Free State Premier Mxolisi Dukwana Accused of Accepting Bribes and Luxury BMW for Son

Allegations of corruption have surfaced against former Free State Premier Mxolisi Dukwana, implicating him in a bribery scandal that reportedly includes accepting significant cash payments and a luxury vehicle for his son. This latest development has intensified scrutiny on Dukwana’s tenure, as authorities investigate claims that he abused his political influence for personal gain. According to sources close to the investigation, Dukwana allegedly accepted bribes from a prominent local businessman seeking lucrative government contracts. In exchange, Dukwana is said to have facilitated favorable tender agreements for the businessman’s companies, using his position to influence procurement decisions. As part of the deal, it is alleged that the businessman arranged for Dukwana’s son to receive a BMW as a token of gratitude for his father’s role in securing these contracts.

The allegations first emerged earlier this year as part of an ongoing probe into corrupt practices within the provincial government. The Free State Hawks, South Africa’s specialized crime-fighting unit, have been investigating various cases tied to Dukwana’s time in office, during which he served as a key figure in provincial politics. While details remain limited, sources have indicated that bank records and communication between Dukwana and the businessman reveal suspicious transactions and messages consistent with bribery. Dukwana, who served as premier from 2023 to 2024, has denied any wrongdoing. Through his legal representative, he stated, “I categorically deny these baseless accusations. I have served the Free State with integrity and will cooperate fully with the investigation to clear my name.” The former premier maintains that he has no knowledge of any illicit dealings involving his son, who has also remained silent on the matter.

The allegations have sparked calls for accountability, with opposition parties demanding swift action from law enforcement. “This is yet another example of a betrayal of public trust,” said DA Free State leader, Roy Jankielsohn. We urge the authorities to ensure a thorough investigation and, if necessary, hold those involved accountable. The investigation remains ongoing, with the Hawks yet to formally charge Dukwana. However, the case has added to a growing list of corruption scandals that have plagued the Free State government in recent years. With mounting pressure from the public and media, the Hawks are expected to expedite their findings and, if warranted, proceed with legal action against those implicated. As authorities delve deeper into the alleged bribery network, South Africans await the outcome, eager to see whether Dukwana and others involved will

face justice.
