Former ANC MP and party spokesperson Pule Mabe has appeared in the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crime Court on charges of corruption, alongside six other accused individuals. The charges stem from a R27-million tender awarded to Mabe’s company, Enviro Mobi, by the Gauteng Agriculture and Rural Development Department in March 2017.
The tender was for the supply of 200 tuk-tuks, known locally as “karikis,” intended to assist waste pickers in Ekurhuleni with their work. The case centers around allegations of irregularities and graft linked to the contract.
The court appearance marks the latest development in a high-profile case that has drawn attention to corruption concerns within public tenders. Mabe and his co-accused are expected to face further legal proceedings as the case unfolds.
