Limpopo-born singer Makhadzi recently revealed she borrowed money to attend the 19th annual BET Hip-Hop Awards ceremony in Los Angeles, where she won the Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act award. Despite this significant achievement, Makhadzi’s journey was not without its financial challenges.

During an appearance on Podcast and Chill, Makhadzi opened up about her ongoing struggles with finances, including a substantial debt to the South African Revenue Service (SARS). Initially, she faced a daunting R6.6 million debt, but with the assistance of a tax consultant, she managed to reduce it to R2.7 million. Even with this reduction, the financial burden remains heavy.

Makhadzi disclosed that, in addition to her SARS debt, she often has to take out loans to maintain the image expected of a superstar. The costs associated with her career, from travel expenses to maintaining her public persona, often exceed her immediate financial means. Despite these obstacles, her dedication to her craft and belief in her potential have driven her to make these sacrifices.

Her attendance at the BET Hip-Hop Awards was a testament to this commitment. Borrowing money to cover her travel expenses, Makhadzi ensured she could participate in an event that not only celebrated her talent but also elevated her on an international stage. Winning the Viewer’s Choice: Best New International Act award was a significant milestone in her career, highlighting her perseverance and resilience.

Makhadzi’s story resonates with many artists who face similar financial hurdles while striving for success. Her openness about her struggles offers a glimpse into the less glamorous side of the entertainment industry, where financial pressures can be as challenging as the pursuit of fame.

Despite the financial challenges, Makhadzi remains committed to her career and continues to inspire her fans with her talent and determination. Her journey underscores the importance of perseverance and self-belief in overcoming obstacles and achieving success.
