The family of a nurse who was detained while visiting her boyfriend, who was released from prison for two murders, is beginning to lose hope that she will be found alive.

Ms Thabisile Angel Vilakazi (35) from KwaHhaza in Howick is said to have left their home on April 16 to visit her boyfriend who is a native of the area but who is employed in Tshelimnyama, Mariannhill, for work.

According to her brother, Mr Thabani Vilakazi, there is a lot of confusion about his sister’s disappearance.

He said that the day before Ms Vilakazi left, she told family members that the day before she was robbed when she arrived late at night in Pinetown.

” She said that the criminals robbed her of the plastic bags and money she was carrying. They left the mobile phone and the bag she was carrying. We are surprised that she revealed that in the midst of the robbery, her boyfriend showed up and told her to go to the house, while she had planned to hire a car for the distance traveled to bring her back home,” said Vilakazi.

Ms Vilakazi, who worked at a clinic in Lions River, said all this, she was telling them the next day, sitting at her boyfriend’s house, when they asked why she didn’t say how she left the day before.

He said they started to realize that something was wrong, which did not return on April 20 as she had said.

She revealed that when they tracked down the boyfriend, he said various confusing things.

“At first he said they had an argument on the 20th and she left. He also said that she went with a man. He also said that she went with two men. He ended up saying that she went with a man from Ndlovu,” Vilakazi said.

Explaining Vilakazi said they told him to give them the number of the Ndlovu man.

“When we spoke to a man from Ndlovu, he revealed that his boyfriend had beaten my sister at a bar in the area. He said they even warned him not to hit a woman like that,” said Vilakazi.

Said Ndlovu also told them that the couple went to the man’s house, leaving them at the bar.

“He said that when they got to the apartment because he lives in the same apartment, they found out that he had started again and hit my sister because they came to him crying,” said Vilakazi.

He said Ndlovu said he does not remember what happened after that as he also went to sleep.

He revealed that they found out from a man who owns a bar that Ms Vilakazi came to him at night to ask for help to call the police because her boyfriend was beating her.

“We are puzzled that a man says he did not call the police when it was clear that my sister was in trouble. we suspect that he also has information about what my sister’s boyfriend did because when we talk to them, their speech is almost the same, you could swear that they are protecting each other,” he said.

He said what made them lose hope that she would be found alive was that she was hit by a man who was convicted of murdering two people who burned down a house in Kwa Hhaza many years ago.

He said that one of the things that made them lose hope was that his sister’s phone had been switched off, and her salary from last month had not been used.

“Thabisile is the type of person who likes to live happily, the fact that her money is not being used gives us a bad impression that she may be gone,” he said.

He said they are looking for help from anyone who may have information that could lead to her finding, as they have gone to different hospitals and morgues but came back empty handed.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson, Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo, said a missing person’s case has been opened at the Mariannhill police station.
