Former Sundowns attacker finds a new club after struggling for game time

When a player leaves a massive established side, there are always questions about his next move. It’s challenging when the player didn’t have a good run at that club, as he was used as a substitute more often than not. But in most cases, he wasn’t part of the club’s match day squad due to his struggles of breaking into the starting eleven. The player in question is Gift Motupa as he was let go by Mamelodi Sundowns recently and he has to find a new club which wasn’t easy. As he knew that he’ll have to downgrade his life, since no team was willing to match what he was earning at Downs, including their benefits.

Motupa was making money despite being on the sidelines, but this wasn’t going to be his professional football career forever, he knew that things would have to change. The 29-year-old attacker was deemed surplus to Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena’s requirements, hence they parted ways during the previous January transfer window. As a free agent, he had to see what was available out there for him and if he could revive his football career in another club.

You’d think that he was going to join a side in the DStv Premiership, but he chose to go back to his previous team Baroka FC that’s playing in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. This wasn’t expected, since he’s still can be part of any top-flight side, but his weight gain stood in his way. He wasn’t playing at Sundowns which meant that he’ll be seen in training more than playing an official match. Also, it was tough for him to battle for game time in the strikers’ department due to the skilled and deadly attack that Sundowns has which allows them to score goals.
