Tragedy struck at Engine Garage in Chiawelo 3, Soweto, on Saturday, the 27th of January, as a petrol attendant lost his life in a brutal shooting incident. The incident has since been recorded in a murder docket at Moroka SAPS, prompting a thorough investigation.

A police officer, responding to a Murder complaint from the CSC, arrived at the scene located at Engen garage, Cnr Manotshe and Tshithuthuni Street, Chiawelo 3. Initial police reports indicate that three unidentified males approached the garage and targeted the petrol attendant, who was diligently filling petrol into a vehicle at the time.

In a chilling turn of events, the suspects, armed with pistols, allegedly opened fire on the unsuspecting petrol attendant from behind. The assailants, after carrying out the heinous act, calmly retreated without taking anything from their victim.

The petrol attendant suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his back, with the crime scene revealing eight cartridges and one spent bullet. The victim, identified as wearing a blue t-shirt, blue trousers, and black boots, succumbed to the injuries inflicted during the attack. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown at this early stage of the investigation.

Police spokesperson Anthony Kholo confirmed that all relevant authorities, including paramedics, were summoned to the crime scene. Despite the efforts of paramedics, the petrol attendant was declared deceased. The pathology team from Diepkloof mortuary attended the scene, and the deceased’s body was subsequently transported to Diepkloof government mortuary.

As of now, no arrests have been made in connection to this tragic incident. The community is left in shock and mourning, while investigators work diligently to unravel the circumstances surrounding this senseless act of violence. The quest for justice continues as law enforcement agencies seek to bring the alleged perpetrators to account for the alleged murder of the petrol attendant at Engine Garage in Chiawelo 3, Soweto.
