ANC Youth League president Collen Malatji has expressed concern about how undocumented migration is affecting South Africa’s public services, particularly in healthcare and education.

Malatji emphasized that while South Africa remains committed to humanitarian values, the significant number of undocumented migrants has placed substantial pressure on resources intended for citizens. He noted that public hospitals and schools are experiencing overcrowding, shortages, and declining service quality, especially in already under-resourced communities.

The Youth League leader stated that addressing these challenges requires strengthening border control while simultaneously increasing investment in public healthcare and education. He clarified that this position is not xenophobic but rather focused on protecting the rights of South African citizens who depend on these services.

Malatji’s comments come amid ongoing national debates about migration, service delivery, and unemployment. He urged the government to adopt a balanced approach that acknowledges South Africa’s regional responsibilities while prioritizing sustainable development for its citizens.

The ANCYL maintains that increased investment in public services is essential to ensure both citizen welfare and effective management of regional migration challenges.
