One of the victims of the VIP Protection assault has recounted his ordeal, saying that he would like the Culprits to be charged for attempted murder. He noted that the VIP Protection members manhandled them and pointed an R5 riffle on him while still mercilessly beating him and his colleagues. TimesLIVE spoke with the VW Polo driver who was seen being dragged out and viciously assaulted by members of the police’s VIP unit, and he opened up that he thought he was being hijacked.

Furthermore, the Victim told TimesLIVE that the VIP Protection members who assaulted him and his friends should be charged with attempted murder, not assault. He said that charging them for assault alone is wrong because these VIP Protection members who assaulted them were out to kill them, but luck was on them side. He said even if when one of them passed out, they continued to beat them.

Recall that the VIP Protection unit who were said to have been attached to the deputy president, Paul Mashatile, were captured on a video beating and assaulting civilians. The incident sparked a wave of outrage across the country as people condemned the act and also called for their arrest. The office of the deputy president subsequently released an official statement that they were not in support of the action of the VIP Protection unit, saying that what they did was uncalled-for. The officers involved were subsequently slammed with suspension and possibly charged with assault. However, one of the victims is saying that they should be charged for attempted murder, not for assault, saying that a R5 riffle was pointed at them by the VIP Protection members. He said that they have been traumatized ever since.
