A resident from the area contacted Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) at approximately 18:04 this afternoon (Wednesday) requesting assistance to apprehend the suspect. On arrival, RUSA Members interviewed the child’s 32 year old mother who stated that on Monday (19/06/2023), residents advised her that her common law husband and her daughter were alone in their home when they heard the child screaming at the man to stop what he was doing. The child then fled from the home.
The woman thereafter interviewed her daughter who alleged that her step father had raped her. She further alleged that he penetrated her on two previous occasions and was afraid to inform her mother. The female registered a criminal case of rape at the Verulam SAPS yesterday (Tuesday) and visited a District Surgeon today. The medical report confirmed that the child had been penetrated. The case was transferred to the Phoenix Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences Unit (FCS).
Reaction Officers made contact with the Investigation Officer who requested that the suspect be arrested. The female directed Officers to the house approximately 200 meters away where the man was confronted and restrained before he could flee. He was then detained at the Verulam SAPS.
The couple have a three (3) year old daughter & an eleven (11) month old son.
