President Cyril Ramaphosa was seen on a train along with some African leaders heading to Kyiv, Ukraine to meet with President Zelensky. This is part of their much publicized visit to Ukraine and Russia to sue for peace among the two nations. Why they had to use a train, Holomisa Bantu wrote, “Ramaphosa security stuck as charter plane never arrives, president heads for Kyiv—Typical. Poorly trained security personnel of SA have been failing this country’s security for some time. They must come back”. Daily Maverick reports that, “The mission by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and other African leaders to pave the way for peace talks between Ukraine and Russia is now under way”.

President Cyril Ramaphosa was said to have notified Xi Jinping of China about the plan of the African leaders to visit both Ukraine and Russia to plead for an end to the hostilities existing between the two nations. The Russia-Ukraine conflict has affected many African countries, including South Africa, which shares a close tie with Russia as a member of BRICS. A News24 journalist wrote that for a long time, the plane to convey Ramaphosa did not arrive. He stated that, “Still no movement, and no plans as the President’s extended security team — which was supposed to be on the ground ahead of his visits to Kyiv and St. Petersburg — is still on the tarmac in Warsaw. The President, however, is already on his way to Ukraine”. Perhaps to stop further delay, Ramaphosa had to use a train to meet with the appointment.
