Mashatile reportedly paid lobola to Humile Mjongile, the widow of a former ANC Western Cape secretary. Sources close to Mashatile said he is believed to be planning a white wedding for later this year. Mashatile lost his wife, Manzi Ellen, in July 2020, after a long illness. Her death came a month after the loss of his mother, Mirriam.
Mashatile, 66, sent a delegation to his bride Humile Mjongile’s home in Leondale, east of Johannesburg, for lobolo negotiations. This was followed by a huge celebration attended by friends of the bride and groom. “When love beckons to you follow him, Though his ways are hard and steep. And when his wings enfold you yield to him, Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you”. Among the guests were businessman Tokyo Sexwale and his wife Natacha da Silva, former environmental affairs minister Nomvula Mokonyane, former Ekurhuleni mayor Mzwandile Masina and former ANC spokesperson Keith Khoza.
Tokyo Sexwale was a very close friend of Humile’s husband. He was there when she tied the knot to him back in 2017. Even when Humile launched the foundation in honour of her husband, Sexwale was there. What a good friend he is. What we know about Humile is that she is a very gentle person who loved her late husband dearly. After his death, she launched a foundation to raise awareness about colon cancer, a disease that had taken his life.
Isn’t it amazing that two years ago, Paul Mashatile sent condolences to Humile Mjongile just after her husband died. It was Mashatile who released a statement comforting Humile and now he’ll walk down the aisle with her. In the statement, Mashatile had hailed the late husband of Humile for his bravery. This life is indeed unpredictable but very much interesting
