Recently, a video popped up in which an alleged SAPS member was seen raping her 12-year-old son. It is alleged that the mum is a police constable based in Limpopo. In the video, a woman, who is the mother of the young boy, who appears to be about 12, is seemingly forcing him to perform the act with her. The video taken by the mum herself, shows her forcing her son.The video is so graphic that one wouldn’t want to watch it as anyone could easily get enraged by watching it. Hopefully, the alleged child abuser will get arrested and prosecuted for her crime. Cultural and societal factors: There is often a culture of silence and stigmatization surrounding child sexual abuse in South Africa, which can make it difficult for victims to speak out or seek help.
Hopefully, with the release of the video as evidence, justice will prevail. The government and NGOs have taken steps to address the problem, such as providing support services for victims and implementing awareness campaigns, but more needs to be done to address the root causes and prevent child sexual abuse from occurring in the first place.
Providing education and awareness campaigns on the issue of child sexual abuse can help to break the culture of silence and the stigma surrounding it. This can include educating children on how to identify and report abuse, as well as educating adults on how to recognize the signs of abuse and respond appropriately
