The Orlando Pirates Football Club legend and Jomo Cosmos owner, Jomo Sono, has dismissed those suggestions about passing his famous number 10 jersey to the club’s on-form attacker Monnapule Saleng.
According to The South African, Jomo Sono believes no player at Orlando Pirates at the moment deserves to wear the jersey number 10.
Jersey number 10 is one of the retired jersey numbers at Orlando Pirates. This was done in order to honor their living legend, Jomo Sono.
Now, there were suggestions that the club should consider giving that jersey number to Monnapule Saleng, as he is doing pretty great for himself.
However, Jomo Sono does not believe he has done enough to earn that jersey number at the club.
When Jomo Sono was speaking to the media, he stated that the jersey was previously worn by someone who is a hardworker, skillful and could also score from anywhere in the field of play.
The Ezenkosi owner revealed that he heard some certain people stating that Jomo Sono can never score a goal that is similar to Monnapule Saleng’s free-kick goal.
Indeed, Monnapule Saleng score a stunning goal in the MTN8 Cup final against Usuthu. However, Jomo Sono stated that him, along with Nguban have scored around 10 goals which are similar to the one Monnapule Saleng scored in the final.
In Jomo Sono’s opinion, he believes that they have scored in even greater goals compared to Monnapule Saleng’s free-kick goal.
The retired legend revealed that sometimes he would score straight from the corner, which is something rare, not only in South Africa or around the continent, but around the world.
Jomo Cosmos owner stated that there is no one you can compare to Jomo Sono. The supporters now want to compare him with someone who can only play with one foot, while he was playing with both feet.
