Season two of Mnakwethu has had Mzansi in its feels since it started airing but last night’s episode takes the cup as many were left devastated (this includes men).
On last night’s episode, Mseleku was faced with a tricky situation as the man he was representing (Langa), displayed apparent signs of disrespecting and possibly abusing his wife.
On the episode, the man who was seeking help from Musa to help him ask permission to marry a second wife actually revealed that he had already paid lobola for another woman, whom must be accepted by his first wife, no questions asked.
The first wife said that her husband has not even yet finished paying her Lobola. “You only paid four cows yet you have paid her entire lobola. What do you take me for?” The first wife demanded answers.
Mzansi was particularly concerned yet proud of MaShelembe for standing her ground, and utterly disgusted by MaSithole’s ruthless behaviour.
Mseleku himself was left defeated by this specif episode as he took to Twitter to post the following: “nami ngisaphuke umoya namanje.” The phrase can be loosely translated to “I am also still heartbroken.”
“Counselling baba Mseleku is needed, the woman is deeply hurt & she’s been holding for too long with the hope that hubby will come around one day but unfortunately she’s been confronted with such more pain on the way. I don’t see Mr. Langa protecting her from the second wife,” said Mamvulane.
Zanele Mokoena said: “That cry was just not about her man wanting a second wife…. U can see that this lady has been living in pain and misery for a long time because of this horrible man…Her sobbing and her pain guys nooo.”
This episode was a hard pill to swallow for many. Men went to an extent of gathering on Twitter to stand in solidarity with MaShelembe.
“Women… Please stand together and help her. I am asking you to please help this sister. Help her find a job so she can stand on her own. Please help her with therapy sessions. Please do not let this woman’s pain, tears and cry go unheard,” Sikhumbuzo pleaded.
“This has to be the most heartbreaking episode!! My gender is heartless yhoo I feel for this lady,” Bongani Hlophe expressed his thoughts.
At the end, MaShelembe told the cameras that she was leaving her husband. She also made it clear to everyone that she was leaving. She said “that’s why I say I must rather leave then you can stay with the one you love.”
It’s a very difficult task for one to just pick up and leave but this is what Mzansi want for her – to leave. She is encouraged to gather strength to stick to her decision and start over elsewhere.
No one should stick around miserable marriages anymore like we still live in the stone ages. Hopefully she’ll receive the much needed support that she will need moving forward.
