The Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga dismissed rumours of plans to administer the COVID 19 vaccine to learners.
Motshekga urged rumour-mongers to stop spreading misinformation because it causes unnecessary panic.
She stresses that no COVID-19 vaccinations were approved in the country for people under the age of 18.
Learners 18 years and older are however encouraged by the minister to get vaccinated.
Learners under the age of 18 will have access to the Integrated School Health Programme (ISHP).
The programme is a collaboration between the DBE and the Department of Health and Social Development.
It offers health services that include “deworming, routine immunisation against measles, polio, HPV, mental health and psycho-social support,” says Motshekga.
None of the services can be delivered without the consent of a parent or guardian.
